Tesla Accelerates AI Chip Development with AI5 Nearing Completion and AI6 in the Works
Elon Musk has revealed Tesla's aggressive roadmap for AI chip development, with the AI5 design nearing completion and work already underway on AI6. The company aims to bring a new AI chip to volume production every 12 months, a pace that WOULD outstrip industry norms.
Tesla's current vehicles run on AI4 chips, with millions already deployed across its fleet and data centers. Musk claims this infrastructure positions Tesla as the leader in real-world AI applications. Production for AI5 is slated to begin in late 2026 at TSMC, with mass production expected in 2027.
The accelerated timeline comes as Tesla launches a recruitment drive for chip engineering talent. "Most people don't know that Tesla has had an advanced AI chip and board engineering team for many years," Musk noted, underscoring the company's established capabilities in this competitive space.
